Description
The St'at'imc, also known as the Lillooet, are an Interior Salish people located in the southern Coast Mountains and Fraser Canyon region of the Interior of the Canadian province of British Columbia. The Tsilhqot'in-St'at'imc war was one brutal war for the St'at'imc and threatened their survival as a nation. The Tsilhqot'in raided all 11 bands of the St'at'imc and took women and children as slaves. Both nations met at many roots (Graveyard Valley) in the St'at'imc territory at which the St?at?imc were victorious. Chief In-Kick-Tee (Hunter Jack) was the warchief in that battle and made a peace treaty in 1845.

Culture
The St'át'imc way of life is inseparably connected to the land. The people use different locations throughout our territory of rivers, mountains and lakes, planning our trips with the best times to hunt and fish, harvest food and gather medicines. The lessons of living on the land are a large part of the inheritance passed on from St'át'imc Elders to our children and learning is experientially based in the seasonal changes of the landscape. St?at?imc culture displayed many features typical of Northwest Coast peoples: the potlatch, clan names, mythology, prestige afforded the wealthy and generous, and totem poles in some communities, especially in the Lil'wat First Nation.
